The work
A satire on the phenomenon of seduction, Blue Carousel is a bold duet created and performed by dance artists Lisa Colette Bysheim (Norway) and Katrine Patry (Quebec), scored with a live techno set by asiangirlsonly (Norway/Philippines).
Blue Carousel draws inspiration from the mating dance of paradise birds, deconstructing the rituals of seduction and power. Featuring live DJs, the piece fuses the intensity of techno music and club culture with choreography. Bysheim and Patry are particularly interested in using humour as a tool to dissolve ingrained ideas and expectations. By employing the ‘spectacle’ as a means to confront underlying themes of objectification, human behaviour, and social constructs, they engage with the complexities of power relations in ways that are both playful and provocative.
The performance invites audiences into a world where the familiar and the absurd collide. The dancers, embodying figures of seductive allure, engage in a visual spectacle—an ever-evolving play between subtlety and explosiveness.
The piece questions and subverts societal norms of seduction and the ways in which women’s bodies are framed and consumed. Their work is crafted to disrupt, question, and ultimately offer new perspectives on how power operates in both visible and subtle forms.
Blue Carousel is a part of the Aerowaves ‘Twenty25 Artist’ network!

About
Lisa Colette Bysheim (1991) and Katrine Patry (1986) are particularly interested in using humour to dissolve preconceived ideas. Working with the ‘spectacle’ as a tool to explore underlying themes of objectification, human behaviour and socially constructed expectations, they aim to question and play with the nuances in power relations.

About the work
They swagger and parade,
They dance and display,
Mesmerising funkiness morphing into shapes.
A side step. Head bobs. Body bouncing.
Spectacular exhaustion,
Of ornaments of seduction.
Blue Carousel - the short vers on is a satire of the phenomenon of seduction by Lisa Colette Bysheim & Katrine Patry. Through a series of performative situations inspired by bird mating rituals, two dancers and dj ́s evolve and interact; moving through repetitive and insisting motives to transformative techno beats, arranged through a live set by dj-duo asiangirlsonly.
The performance is a power play of expectations and associations, collapsing and climaxing into a series of transformations. A playful and suggestive work looking at power relations between the spectator and exhibitor.
In our collaborative work, we are interested in the spectacle of seduction as a tool to look at power relations. In the act of an eye-catching public display, we want to discover who has the power: the exhibitor or the spectator? Is this reversible or exchangeable? The project is a research on how birds mating dance can be related to pop-culture, questioning what is socially accepted/expected vs the absurdity in the unexpected. We wish to use humour and satire as an entrance to look at power relations. In this research project we want to discover if and how insistence has a key role in making seduction an effective tool in the games of power. Two women like birds of paradise, a serious parade in all its absurdity.
